Session 1, Week 1 From the Camp Directors:

Wow!  We just finished up a great first week of summer camp! Our campers had an incredible week, filled with many different activities, new friends, and most importantly, fun!

We started the week on Monday spending time in our paw groups learning everyone’s names and getting to know all of our new friends. At LSU, we like to have a lot of spirit, and one of our highlights from Monday morning was an all-camp spirit competition where each Paw Group showed just how excited they are to be at LSU and at Tiger’s Den! We then spent Monday afternoon rotating between a refreshing swim in our pool, climbing on our rockwall, and playing indoor soccer in the gym.

We stayed in the gym on Tuesday morning while also moving some groups outside to our fields for an all-camp relay competition, where campers were highly active and had to compete with their teammates to finish different team challenges and relays. That afternoon, campers worked within their paw groups to create a skit and a presentation about the Tiger’s Den Guiding Principles, and each camper had the opportunity to learn about these values and to teach them to their fellow campers.

Wednesday was a jam-packed day with different activities, ranging from an arts and crafts project to games of charades.  The big hit on this day was the introduction of Tiger Ball, one of the traditional favorites of Tiger’s Den campers, which is played on the gym courts. Due to the rain that came in the afternoon, we weren’t able to go outside on our waterslide, but instead campers still had lots of fun using it as a dry slide inside on our gym courts, while others spent time swimming in the pool.

Thursday was highlighted by a nature walk along the LSU Lakes, which allowed our campers to get outside and experience some of the cool things that make LSU unique. In the afternoon, we had a special opportunity to participate in KidFit, which was a fun, high energy fitness class led by Mr. Chase, one of the UREC fitness instructors.

In the spirit of LSU, Friday was highlighted by a giant Tiger’s Den tailgate, where campers had the opportunity to participate in many indoor and outdoor activities, including beanbag toss, football passing competitions, and face-painting. Many of the Tiger’s Den counselors are very artistic, and campers enjoyed showing their LSU spirit with some great face-paint designs. We finished up the week with another fun afternoon of games in the pool while also climbing on the rockwall and playing capture the flag in the gym.

We’ve been busy this week and are looking forward to a summer filled with more campers, activities, new friends, and fun! Thank you to all those families who shared the Tiger’s Den experience with us this week, and we’ll see you soon!
