Session 2, Week 1 From the Camp Directors:
What a great week of camp this was! Being creative and exploring the world around us has kept our campers busy having fun this week!
We started the week on Monday spending time in our Paw Groups—with it being the first session for many new campers, we focused on making sure that everyone understood our camp rules and that our new campers were making friends, learning names, and having fun! After introductions, each paw group had a lot of fun playing Dodgeball and practicing their talents for the Talent Show on Thursday. We finished up the day with a great swim in the pool and also climbed on the Rockwall and played balloon volleyball in the gym!
Tuesday we trekked to the Baton Rouge beach for a canoeing field trip—after learning about proper boating skills and safety, each camper was able to explore the LSU Lakes on the water while enjoying the beautiful weather. After lunch, campers had fun learning and presenting on the Camp Values, which included some funny skits, dances, and songs, and then campers broke into Paw Groups to play some different games to finish out the afternoon—body parts musical chairs was especially fun for our campers!
Wednesday was an exciting day of camp as many campers and counselors dressed up as their favorite movie star or character or performer, and we all had a lot of fun showcasing the individual costumes and the creativity that all of our campers showed. Then, we broke into Paw Groups for a morning of rotations, which included making thank you cards for the Canoe Instructor, Mr. Chris, as well as fun games like Color Guard Tag, Wallball, and Scooter Races. We lucked out with a great afternoon of fun in the sun, as we were able to set up our outdoor waterslide so campers had an exciting time of playing outside in the water while also getting to come inside to a refreshing swim in the pool.
On Thursday, campers were very active in the morning, enjoying the outdoors playing kickball on the fields, playing basketball and tortoise tag in the gym, as well as making Father’s Day cards in Arts & Crafts. The afternoon was very special, as we celebrated the tradition-rich Tiger’s Den’s Got Talent Show and our campers did not disappoint! We witnessed many great acts, songs, and performances, both from our campers individually as well as in groups with their new friends—our campers are truly talented! After the Talent Show, we finished up the day with a big game of Tiger Ball in the gym.
On Friday, we finished up the week with a very special treat—a performance from a traveling puppet show! We had a great experience and lots of laughs watching the show and then learning more from the performers in a special question and answer afterwards. In the afternoon, we cooled off with a refreshing swim in the pool while also playing a Tiger’s Den favorite, Bug Out, in the gym.
It’s been a busy week, filled with lots of laughs, activity, and creativity, and there is much more to come! Thank you to all those families who shared the Tiger’s Den experience with us this week, and we’ll see you soon!
