Session 5, Week 1 From the Camp Directors:
Life is a trip this week—we’ve been traversing the globe every day!
With this session, we focused on our theme of Global Adventures, and many of our activities took us to different countries and cultures from around the world. We started out on Monday in our paw groups and had a lot of fun making a giant world map in Arts & Crafts—to get active, we also traveled to Alaska to play Alaskan Baseball and then went outside to the fields to run some more and play soccer. Campers also had fun during the morning playing an interactive game of “Guess the Landmark” in the classrooms! The afternoon was spent swimming, climbing on the rock wall, and playing a long game of indoor soccer in the gym.
Tuesday was a busy day for all of camp, as Juniors took a field trip to Baton Rouge Beach to explore the water via canoe! With a nice breeze it wasn’t too hot and campers had fun canoeing, making sand castles, and playing whiffle ball. While the Juniors were on the water, senior paw groups took a field trip to the Leisure Arts Studio in the Union and made a canvas bag with special stamps. In the afternoon, after making and presenting skits on the Tiger’s Den values, campers rotated through activities, and the highlight was definitely playing Queimada, which is a modification of a Brazilian game of tag!
On Wednesday, we traveled Down Under and played Skippy Roo Kangaroo in paw groups—seniors also had fun playing European Dodgeball in the gym and it was really cool to see everyone enjoying a tag game called British Bulldog. Before lunch, campers also had fun cheering on their counselors in an all-camp game of counselor put-out! We had fun in the sun after lunch, with groups playing on the outdoor waterslide while also taking a refreshing swim in the pool. We also played team handball in the afternoon in the gym, which was a challenge at first but as campers began to understand the rules, it was a lot of fun!
Thursday marked our last field trip day of the summer, as seniors enjoyed canoeing and games at Baton Rouge Beach. Meanwhile, the junior paw groups had their turn at visiting the Leisure Arts Studio in the Union. We stayed busy in the afternoon with KidFit, and we owe a big thank you to Mr. Chase & Ms. Camille for all the great KidFit classes this summer! Junior paw groups also made dream catchers in Arts & Crafts, while the seniors were active in the gym playing Human Foosball and Hoop Ball.
To finish off the week, we spent the morning on Friday feeding the ducks and trying our hand at fishing in the lakes. Groups also played games in the gym, including Tiger in the Middle, Earthball and Around the World, as well as the always fun game of Mafia! The afternoon was filled with swimming, rock climbing, and playing King Pin in the gym, which is easily the most popular game at camp!
We only have one more week left this summer but it’s going to be a great one! Thank you to all those families who shared the Tiger’s Den experience with us this week, and we’ll see you soon!
