About the Greg Gibbens Ghost Chase
The Greg Gibbens Ghost Chase is an annual 3k Fun Run hosted by University Recreation every October in memory of a former employee named Greg Gibbens. Starting at the UREC Student Recreation Complex, this 3k Fun Run will host an assortment of ghosts and ghouls, all competing for the chance to win the Ghost Chase Title. This race is pet friendly, so be sure to bring your children and pets to have some fun chasing the Ghost along the route!
About Greg Gibbens
Greg Gibbens was a former employee of University Recreation, who despite a physical handicap, was able to accomplish many great feats with the life he had been given. As opposed to being known as a wheelchair athlete, Greg wanted to be known more as an athlete in a wheelchair, due to the talents and gifts he possessed. These and other exceptional aspects of Greg’s were even more apparent in his vigor for life and affection toward others. Due to an unfortunate incident, Greg’s life was ended prematurely. In memory of this distinguished individual, UREC holds this annual race in remembrance of Greg not only as an accomplished employee, but also as an extraordinary person.
All race proceeds benefit the University Recreation Development Fund at the LSU Foundation, which provides development opportunities for UREC student employees. This fund enables students to attend regional and national conferences and workshops, obtain advanced certifications and training, and receive financial assistance for books and studies.
