This past Earth Day, UREC showed off our newly planted garden. Consisting of eight pots of different veggies, it might not be the grandest, but it is filled with love. This garden has been created using composting that we created. Working with the UREC professional staff and Ms. Judy Myhand, an instructor within School of Human Ecology and Division of Human Nutrition and Food, we have spent the semester working to get enough compostable material to mix in with our potting soil to plant our vegetables. With a few varieties of tomatoes, peppers, and squash planted, we are hoping for a good harvest in a couple of months. While only a test run, we hope to continue experimenting with different designs and see if we can include a sustainably grown and maintained garden in the upcoming expansion and redesign project. Check out future posts for more pictures as the veggies continue to grow!
